Next Bit of Idaho And The Great Sam's Birthday

I have had these pictures sitting here for weeks waiting
for me to have something to say.
Lets just say Happy Birthday to Sam!
We love you and think you are great!
And then call this a photo dump.
Or these photos might sit here

A Thought

So I know I already posted today,
but I ran across this thought and needed a place to
put it where I could find it again later.
It also seemed like something we could all benefit from.
It is this-

Listen more than talk. Two ears, one mouth.

Profound, right?
It is definitely something worth thinking about.

Your True Name

Hi All!
I just watched such a neat interview with Eric Whitacre.
It was so interesting. I had to share it with you
because you all will understand, I think,
why it resonated with me so strongly.

I especially loved where he talks about music
telling him his true name.
It just resonated with me so strongly.

It's short.
Watch it.
You won't be sorry.

Love you!

Thoughts On Being a Super Mushy Mom

Oh my Kids.
I read this poem online today.
And completely lost it.
Being your mom is the most amazing, rewarding, hard,
incredible thing I have ever done.
I miss you guys!
You are just the best.
And this is really how it feels.
I know you won't really understand it until you have
kids of your own, (you might a bit, Em)
but it really is how it feels.
Crazy.

The Last Time
From the moment you hold your baby in your arms, you will never be the same.
You might long for the person you were before,
when you had freedom and time and nothing in particular to worry about.
You will know tiredness like you never knew it before
and days will run into days that are exactly the same:
Full of feedings and burping, nappy changes and crying,
whining and fighting, naps or lack of naps
It might seem like a never-ending cycle.

But don’t forget…
There is a last time for everything.
They will fall asleep on you after a long day, and it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child.
One day you will carry them on your hip then set them down and never pick them up that way again.
You will scrub their hair in the bath at night and from that day on they will want to bathe alone.
They will hold your hand to cross the road then never reach for it again.
They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles
and it will be the last night you ever wake to this.
One afternoon you will sing “The Wheels on the Bus” and do all the actions then never sing them that song again.
They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate then the next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone.
You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your last dirty face.
They will run to you with arms raised for the very last time.

The thing is, you won’t even know it’s the last time
until there are no more times… and even then, it will take you a while to realize.

So while you are living in these times, remember there are only so many of them and when they are gone, you will yearn for just one more day of them.
For one last time.

Love you forever and ever

More Family Time in Idaho

This is the one day we made it outside to play.
It was cold and wintery and glorious.
I sometimes forget how good it feels to be
out in the fresh cold air.
Not to mention I was in the best
of company. (Wink)

I know Gabe's eyes are closed, but liked the
photo too much to leave it out.

It was very bright!

Blazing the trail.

The landscape was just so beautiful.

It worked better once we got a track made for the sleds.

And this is when The Mom slid down the hill,
forgetting her camera around her neck,
into the powdery, wet snow, and doused said camera.
If you notice the next few photos...

Then we walked down the road to the pond to see if
we could do some skating.
We hauled the skates all the way from Minnesota!

Sadly the pond had been too well insulated by the
snow and had slush on top.
No skating for the Haggen/Beard/Wirig Clan.

"Wait! Take another one. I wasn't ready."

Sammy looks so much less thrilled than the rest of you!

And a good time was had by all.
It felt so good to be out in that glorious fresh air,
even though at this point we were all getting sick.
I know we felt growing pains in our time together,
but I'm still not sorry we took the time.
I sure love spending time with you cool cats.
You're my favorite in the world and all.

And here is one of my favorite winter
poems, for your literary enjoyment.

Love you like crazy!

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
